glamour challenge: the bodice

  • Posted on February 18, 2012 at 12:27 am

i finally got a chance to sew the bodice together from my “art quilted” silk. i have to find time to work on this or the challenge will be over before i’m done. so today i put it together and tried it on ember for final fittings. it’s hard to see in the photo, but the bust is a little big, and needs to be pulled in. the tiniest change in cutting out the pieces shows up when sewing this small, as does changes in the fabric. it will look better after a good press, but i want to fix the bust first. i also need to be careful not to stretch out the top edge which has nothing to hold it in place yet.

here is the bust line fixed. the underarm seam looks a bit high, but that should be right once the lining is attached. the extra height is just my seam allowance. my “quilting” lines are showing up nicely on the bodice now. i don’t know if its the angle or the light that makes the difference, but i’m very pleased with the result.

i also have to somehow fix her posing. she was pretty “kicky” today, i’m almost sorry i switched her from a cutie bust to a small bust. her old body posed better, but wouldn’t really suit an evening gown, she just looked too young to me. however she is going to be hard to pose in the requisite “glamour” shot if i don’t figure something out.

lace shawl

crocheted shawl
i whipped up a shawl for ember to wear in the chilly evenings. it’s not blocked yet and i have to sew the ends in, but i’m happy with it none-the-less.

new eyes

i changed ember’s eyes to different purple ones that i had in my “eye box”. they are lighter, but with a dark ring and one size smaller. i didn’t think they would work, but they fit really well. i love her new look and she is now much easier to photograph, (even though the lighting right now is horrible for taking pics.)

she is wearing a new thread lace shawl i made for her, not finished or blocked, but it really brought out the color in her eyes.

now if i could just figure out where i got the eyes from! (anyone know/recognize them?)

ember

i finally went out today and took some quick shots of ember (chloe) and can introduce her. it was a horrible day for pics with the sun going in and out of the clouds, making it really hard to get the right exposure, but i did get a few i liked.

she is going to get new eyes before the next photoshoot. her deep purple ones look great in person but in a photo keep looking like they are all pupil, or blowing out and looking bloodshot.

other than that i’m happy with the way she turned out – sexy yet demure at the same time.

the shirt was really big but i bunched it up behind her and loved the slightly sexy look it gave

amberglas welcomes her sister ember home with a snuggle hug.

i think ember needs new eyes though. the purple ones don’t photograph well, she keeps looking bloodshot, though they are quite nice in person. time for new colored contacts i guess 😉
