follow the dotted line

  • Posted on February 22, 2017 at 11:23 am

i finally got round to uploading the pictures of my 5th shawl. this one was very loosely inspired by melanie bergs shawl drachenfels. i like the color combination and the juxtaposition of dots and lines

tale of two cities

both the shawl and it’s name are inspired by a melanie berg shawl called 5190 miles. her name celebrates the distance between the two cities of the collaborators on her shawl. mine of course is named after the dickens novel.
melanie’s shawl was lovely, but both the size and stitch used were out of scale for my doll, so i rewrote it completely with a different stitch that made a similar look, but in the correct scale.

sweet as candy

i really like this one.
sweet as candy
the colors are so bright and cheerful. they were inspired by the theme of this years yarnathon “candyland”. but i can also see this shawl done in jewel tones on black, or shades of blue on cream or… well you get the picture. i plan to make up some more after i get a couple of other projects done.

it came out the perfect size for a nice thick shawl for an msd or ellowyne, but i’m pretty sure it would also work as a somewhat smaller size for american girl sized dolls or even an sd.

i’m hoping to get the pattern typed, proofed and up on ravelry in the next few weeks.

here are some more pictures just ’cause i love it so much

it will be a day or two before i’m home long enough to take pictures, but in the meantime here is a quick look at the shawls being blocked.

finished the kal.. but not making shawls

  • Posted on January 22, 2017 at 11:24 am

i finished up the fourth shawl for my esk kal. that gave me the yardage i needed to qualify. but the scarves are so addictive, i’ve already started a fifth which i will show soon. its a variation of my tale of two cities shawl. i used the same stitches and color changes, but changed the position of the stripes a bit so that they worked out better at the edges. it made it just a little bigger, but i’m happier with how it is turning out…
however enough teasing you with a shawl that i’m not showing yet…. here is the one i did finish. it was inspired by the drachenfels shawl, with a bit of moonraker thrown in for variety, to create something totally different that i call “follow the dotted line”

in spite of the fact that i had to constantly frog this one back to get the vision in my head to match the work on my needles, this shawl was done fairly quickly. it is the biggest of the shawls so far and my current favorite. the colors on this one were inspired by this years yarnathon theme of “candyland” but i think it would look stunning with jewel tones on black, or a gradient of blues on cream. i’m pretty sure there will be more in the girls future….

candyland knit and ends woven in

like the last one, the size of my candy shawl would work equally well as a shawlette or scarf for bigger dolls like an sd or american girl. i’m in the process of turning my notes for the last two into actual patterns, that i hope to have available soon on etsy and ravelry

all part of the process

i decided to knit my realfees some striped sweaters, and crochet coordinating funky hats. i wanted something that would be more suitable for the boys, or at least unisex. i tried, as much as possible, to carry the ends along so i’d have less to sew in, but i still ended up with this!
What was I thinking?

after sewing in all the ends i ended up with a pile of yarn bits almost as big as the pile of sweaters/hats

The finished piles

i still have to add snaps and make some pants to go with them so my dolls aren’t indecently exposed 😉 but then i’ll take more pictures and eventually one of each color will end up in my etsy store.

i’ve really been neglecting things lately, the kids went back to school and i just seemed to crash. but i’m trying to get back going again and thought a good way to start was with a pre-christmas sale at my etsy store. i have a bunch of thread crocheted dresses in the pukifee/ latiyellow /tiny delf size ready to go and thought it would be a great time to put them up so people could get them delivered before christmas. so here’s the deal…
from now til november 15th buy any thread crochet pukifee dress and get another dress free! (while supplies last,) the free dress is random, but you can request pinks, earth tones, brights, pastels in note to seller.

dolly a day july 2-4

  • Posted on July 5, 2013 at 11:54 am

the second day and already i’m behind, but i had a specific image in my head for the word “blanket” and i just couldn’t let it go. it took this long to finish the pajamas i needed to make it work.
reflections
after i took the picture though, i saw the reflections in the floor and decided i would rather use this picture for that theme ( i do have three days to catch up after all ;))

so i used this one instead for “blanket”.

and of course how can you have a blanket without a “pillow”?
