christmas mahem

  • Posted on December 24, 2018 at 9:25 am

meg volunteered to help finish decorating the tree this year. the others were too busy baking cookies, or wrapping presents, but dovey, emrys and noah wanted to help.

decorating the tree
at first all went well as they each hung ornaments on the branches

uh oh
then noah decide his stool was too low and he needed to get higher to help meg reach the upper branches

noah get down
meg looked up to see him balanced precariously on the uppermost branches. reaching up she scolded, “noah get down, before you fall!”
too late
but it was too late, she couldn’t reach him in time and noah tumbled to the floor. holding his head he sighed “ouch!”

meanwhile on the other side of the tree,
meanwhile on the other side of the tree, emrys had climbed up on a stool to hang ornaments above dovey’s head

i think i can reach
some of the branches were just a little too high, but emrys thought he could reach them

meg look!
just then dovey turned around “meg look!” she cried out.

rescued
this time meg made it in time to rescue emrys

you two sit right here
you two sit right here, she sighed, dovey and i will finish the tree

got up this morning and finished the pom pom for the last hat. since this one was so bright, meg let me go just a little smaller, so it didn’t overwhelm the hat.

megs new hats.

i hat a little bit of yarn left over from my lost and wandering socks. i figured there was just enough to make a couple of hats for the girls. turns out i had enough to make 4 with less than 30cm of yarn left over when i was done! they made cute beanies but meg insisted she want BIG pompoms on them. we went through the stash and she chose 4 colors to coordinate with the hats. while watching tv i managed to make and trim down the first three, and she happily modeled the hats for me as i finished. it was actually the perfect activity to do while huge flakes of snow fell steadily outside.
she picked gold to go with the first of the purplier ones

navy with the other

and purple with the first pinker one

i still have one more pom to make. but i ran out of time.
i think she did a great job of picking colors, but i’m not so sure about the size of the pompoms. i think they look a bit big (in spite of my trimming) but she assures me that they are right on trend, and just what she wanted! she’s going to wear one tomorrow when we go out and wrap the others as gifts for nandi, ember and shaelyn… as soon as i get that last pompom done…

monet’s garden dress

  • Posted on June 23, 2017 at 9:01 am

you got a glimpse of megs new dress in my last post , but here it is in all it’s glory

monets garden dress

this is one of the dresses i made for the esk persian dreams kal. i took quick pics done just to verify i had finished the hexes dresses for my kal, but meg couldn’t resist trying this one on. this is one of those hate to love colors. it was pretty in the skein, muddled when wound and then started looking like clown barf when i started my “hex”. luckily i persevered because now it reminds me more of a monet garden painting.

now i really need to make her some proper leggings to wear under it before we go to the wedding next week

headphones!

found these adorable headphones at the dollar store and couldn’t resist picking up a couple to see if they would fit. they are actually air fresheners, and although they are a smidge big, for $1.25 they aren’t bad at all. i think they would fit the larger minifee heads perfectly or should be good for my kid delf.
headphones!
the top is a hard plastic ring, the bottom is soft and rubbery so no change of dolly damage. i think i could take the bottoms off, shorten the “stem” just a smidge and glue them back on to get a perfect fit. i’ll try that later….

i’m in a esk kal and adapted it so i could make dresses for my girls instead of a blanket (i know it’s a stretch, but trust me it worked ;))
i still want to do a proper photoshoot when i am done, but meg tried on one of the dresses to day and i took an (embarassingly poor) cell phone picture of it.

i’m not sure whether to sew solid color underskirts for the dresses, or just make coordinating leggings. what do you think?

i finally got round to uploading the pictures of my 5th shawl. this one was very loosely inspired by melanie bergs shawl drachenfels. i like the color combination and the juxtaposition of dots and lines

i dream of summer

while writing up my tale of two cities scarf, i realized that some minor changes in the number of rows between the stripes would make them work out better. meg picked two colors for the new scarf and i knit it up again. it came out a smidge bigger, but we both liked it that way – and it was easier to knit. you’d only notice the size change if you lay them out side by side anyway.
i dream of summer
i like her choice of colors. it makes me think of summer, even though the ground is covered with snow.

both the shawl and it’s name are inspired by a melanie berg shawl called 5190 miles. her name celebrates the distance between the two cities of the collaborators on her shawl. mine of course is named after the dickens novel.
melanie’s shawl was lovely, but both the size and stitch used were out of scale for my doll, so i rewrote it completely with a different stitch that made a similar look, but in the correct scale.

ready, set action

meg and i went out today to take pictures of the new shawls. it was almost perfect weather. cold, but not bitterly so, mostly overcast, so a little dull, but no harsh shadows, and only a little breezy. although this first shawl was done with laceweight yarn, the stitch pattern made this one a little thick, so the style options are somewhat limited.
miss dottie

in spite of that, it is kind of fun and the colors are nice and bright
