couch tutorial part 3 attaching the seat covers

  • Posted on December 5, 2014 at 9:04 am

the tufting is all done. this is really the only part that wouldn’t work to glue, but you could make your dots farther apart if you aren’t as obsessive as i am 😉 you could also add small buttons or beads on each tuft to mimic the buttons on a couch. personally i hate sitting on pillows with buttons so i refuse to inflict them on my dolls 😆

now tuck the ends in this hides all those ugly frayed ends and makes it look neat from the outside. make sure it is exactly as wide as your foam piece.

and pin in place, line up your batting even with the top of the foam and pin it in place so it doesn’t shift before you turn it over and stretch the back around.

whip stitched closed. this doesn’t have to be super neat as it won’t show. it’s more important that it be relatively flat, and that it hold the fabric tight. you could also glue this step if you’d rather and just leave the pins in to hold it tight till the glue dries, but i think stitching is more secure.

glue and weight …and wait 😉

the top layer added to each seat and weighted again so it will dry flat. once again there are TWO seats here, just stacked for space and so i can use the same weight for both. if you look at the end you will see i carefully covered the foam piece before i wrapped my tufted piece around it. i realized after i did, that the ends would be completely covered in the next step so it wasn’t necessary and i didn’t show that step.

next step coming after the glue dries….

my next project and a step by step tutorial in excrutiating detail ;o)

i’m starting a new project, one i’ve been wanting to do for ages, and just for fun i’m going to post step by step pictures in case it works and anyone else wants to try it 😉 it started off with these great sheets of packing foam that came round a new monitor my husband got last year when our old one died.
i could see the potential in them for building some great doll stuff, so i snagged them and stuffed them in the closet where they sat till i finally pulled them out to start working.

first i cut 3 pieces 6-1/2″ X 15″, and 3 pieces 6-1/2″ x 13″ for the seats. i’m using inches instead of cm this time, just because i’m using my quilting ruler to cut with and it is in inches.

then i cut 1 piece each 3-1/2″x15″, 3-1/2″x13″ & 3-1/2″x5-1/2″ for the seat backs

this is the rough shape of my couch/sofa. i’m just not sure whether i want the back of the short side to extend all the way out, like my mock up, or only go half-way out like some other couches i’ve seen. any thoughts?

glue 2 only of each of the seat pieces together in pairs then weight them flat to dry

my adorable girl molly, the pictures don’t do her justice but it continues to pour rain here. half the province is in a state of emergency, much of the city is shut down with the worst flooding in decades, it seems silly to complain when all we have is poor lighting, and no way to go out for pictures without getting soaked, but it has been a very long spring :sigh

lucy’s back

  • Posted on January 25, 2013 at 10:29 am

lucy is back with a new faceup. she was really rough on her old one, multiple scratches and lost lashes in just a week, but her new face captured pretty much what i loved about the old one so it is all good. i’m not sure what is getting into the littlefees lately though. they are all attitude when it comes to clothes and pictures. i’d expect that from the teenagers, but not the ‘fees!

lucy is also going through a phase of only wearing black, not a goth sort of black, she is into an urban chic sort of black. i have to admit it really suits her and looks great against that flaming red hair.

eilidh gets a new look

  • Posted on January 23, 2013 at 2:40 pm

eilidh got a new faceup recently – actually the same time kiri did- and we have been trying to figure out what to do about her hair since it just wasn’t right somehow. we tried a lot of different red wigs, but just couldn’t find “the one”. then one day we were playing in the wig box looking for a wig for lucy and eilidh discovered an old wig of ellyce’s. it was exactly the right color and length, it just needed some restyling….
eilidh's new look
personally i think it still could use some restyling, but eilidh seems to really like the wild mop head look!

with her makeup and hair sorted out she happily chose a new top to model.
this cherry red sparkly twist collared top is the first one in my new line of tops for littlefees in my etsy store – and it fits the honey delfs and bids too!

i made two of them, so eilidh gets to keep this one.

but there is one more available for sale

ananda, shaelyn, meg and i spent a lovely snowy weekend at chateau lake louise. the snow fell almost continuously with those lovely fat light flakes drifting down endlessly, muffling the sound and obscuring the view. when we woke up this morning we could see that almost a foot of snow had fallen while we were there. yesterday ananda and i went for a walk around the lake. i got some great glamor shots of the new minifee sweaters i’ve been making. the snow was so deep that i couldn’t take pictures of the skirts. the girls only had shoes to wear with the skirts and that looked really silly with the snow anywhere from their ankles to their hips, so we concentrated on sweaters instead and got some great shots! i’ll be putting the best ones up over the next week or so and working hard to get all of them up in the shop as well.

shaelyn decided to play diva and refused to go out for the walk, she said she had only brought her dress boots, so she stayed back at the lodge with meg – who forgot her stockings and got too cold. meg and shaelyn read books in front of the fire in the lounge and flirted with all the boys in town for the world cup ski race next weekend while we were out.

on the walk ananda and i discovered a ledge hung with a curtain of snowflakes. it was the prettiest and most delicate thing i’ve ever seen

etsy store is open

i just posted my first listing on etsy :tapdances around the room.

introducing wisp

onebluestocking

i have a long way to go to finish stocking it, but the first item is up so at least i have finally made a start, after all the delays and procrastination. i have 21 dress, 28 nap blankets and a whole pile of hats ready to go so decided to just get there and start listing even of all the pictures haven’t been taken. the weather isn’t cooperating today anyway so i’ll try to finish up the pictures of what i’ve got done over the next week. then i’ll be able to start on some new stuff with a clear conscience.

take time to relax

chillin

we’ve been working like mad the past few weeks trying to get stuff ready for an etsy store opening, it seems there is an endless amount of things to do!. tumnus reminded me today to take time to just relax and enjoy life

the boys run away…

  • Posted on October 1, 2012 at 4:27 pm

today was the first of several photo days to try and get my etsy store up and running. the little girls were fairly cooperative, i think it helped that it was kind of like playing dress up for them, trying on lots of pretty dresses then twirling in front of the camera, but noah and tumnus ran away to look for boys to play with. “too many frills!” they exclaimed

noah and tumnus

tumnus is a lot less cooperative since he got his new curly wig and dropped the “mr” he now looks and acts much more like a little boy than a grown elf. noah who also got new curlier hair likes the change since it gives him a boy closer to his age, instead of just girls!
