doll-a-day 4 – worry

emmie is my empathetic one and has a soft spot a mile wide. when she spotted these big “needles” she got really worried!

doll a day 3 – wish

double wish on this one. i really wish i had a good camera with me to get better lighting! but i had to make do with a cell phone camera still, which adds interesting constraints in and of itself.

anyway. just around the curve of the hospital you can see the outdoor playground. but we are in isolation so we can only…wish

braving the cellar

crystalorn and amberglas are taking part in a swap on doa, with a couple of other tinies. crystal has already made a new bff, since her partner loves pink, flowers and lace as much as crystal! she is taking amber in hand since amber’s partner is also rather girly and she says amber is a great sister, but she just doesn’t understand pink! 😆

here the two of them are ready to go down into the basement to look for swap fabric. they put on their hiking boots, and crystal insisted on taking her flashlight, even though we have lots of light in the basement. they are ready for serious work!

quick and easy photo lights/light box

  • Posted on February 22, 2013 at 4:12 pm

i got some new “photo” lights for christmas, and tried them out for the first time today. i’m really pleased with how much they improved the picture quality. this is basically untouched (i changed the color slightly- the daylight bulbs weren’t quite right but that was it, normally i do a lot more editing than that) i’m impressed since i picked something really tough to try-really high contrast both in terms of dark/light clothes and the vividness of lucy’s coloring vs the emmie’s delicate tones

(lucy is introducing emmie, who is too shy to meet everyone on her own)

here is my set up. it was pretty simple. a couple of clips from the dollar store hold up the foamcore board backdrop. (an idea i got off an internet tutorial, sorry i can’t remember where) this works so much better than propping it up against a box on the table! it was always sliding or falling over when i did that. the lights are $20 clip on tasks lights from homedepot with daylight twister flourescent bulbs that you can get anywhere!

the third light source is my window, afternoon sun, midwinter, with the sun above the house – so not super bright, but if i was taking pictures in the evening i would need another couple lights to replace it i think.

i had planned to go the whole light box box route and build movable sides and covers for the lights to get them more diffuse, but it really wasn’t necessary. there are no harsh shadows the way it is, and the covers/lightbox cut down on the light so i would just have to add more. maybe if i got higher wattage lights i would need covers but these ones don’t need it (they are 100w equivalents 21 watts actual i believe)

rub a dub dub wee girls in a tub

to try and keep up with my new years resolutions for at least the first week, here is this weeks post, three of my wee girls together in the bubble bath scrubbing clean after a morning or finger painting, in which they got more paint on themselves than the paper.

i just posted my first listing on etsy :tapdances around the room.

onebluestocking

i have a long way to go to finish stocking it, but the first item is up so at least i have finally made a start, after all the delays and procrastination. i have 21 dress, 28 nap blankets and a whole pile of hats ready to go so decided to just get there and start listing even of all the pictures haven’t been taken. the weather isn’t cooperating today anyway so i’ll try to finish up the pictures of what i’ve got done over the next week. then i’ll be able to start on some new stuff with a clear conscience.

the boys run away…

  • Posted on October 1, 2012 at 4:27 pm

today was the first of several photo days to try and get my etsy store up and running. the little girls were fairly cooperative, i think it helped that it was kind of like playing dress up for them, trying on lots of pretty dresses then twirling in front of the camera, but noah and tumnus ran away to look for boys to play with. “too many frills!” they exclaimed

noah and tumnus

tumnus is a lot less cooperative since he got his new curly wig and dropped the “mr” he now looks and acts much more like a little boy than a grown elf. noah who also got new curlier hair likes the change since it gives him a boy closer to his age, instead of just girls!
