adoption meme

  • Posted on August 20, 2012 at 7:08 am

i finally managed to join in on an adoption meme going round on flickr. i got tagged just before we went on holidays but since there were people still doing it, i figured better late than never. basically it works like this. you take a group picture of your dolls or make a collage of them, whichever works better (due to the widely disparate size of mine i figured the collage was a better bet) then people look at the dolls and decide which of them they would like to adopt if they could pick one without changing anything, and vote for their choice in the comments section. each person that joins in is then “tagged” to do the same with their crew.

so this isn’t all my dolls, since several of them are undergoing revision right now and are in pieces but they are the ones available for photos

2nd row: noah, skylar, crystalorn, kiri,
3rd row:eilidh, tiera, cailyn, quinn
bottom row :becca, ananda, shaelyn, ember
who would you pick if you could take one just as they are?

mr tumnus and the fairy fluff
mr tumnus is a gentle soul who loves to quietly explore his world, preferring nature to the busyness of city life. but after all if you were only 4 inches tall wouldn’t you prefer gardens too, even wild ones?

amber and crystal also return from the spa

  • Posted on August 14, 2012 at 5:06 pm

amberglas and crystalorn had been playing a bit too hard and had had scratches and chips on their faces. so when skylar arrived and needed to go to the spa, they decided to make a girls day of it and get “prettified” with her. there was a lot of giggling involved and it took a lot longer to do three squirmy little girls, but it did keep skylar from being scared and amber and crystal were very happy with the results

i was happy that they retained their unique “selves” through the transformation

skylar unveiled

we just got back from holidays and here is the first picture of skylar/pio. i’ll get more up when i get more edited but i have over 500 pictures to go through! this will be her hair color, but she has blue/green eyes coming to match her big sister ananda, and apparently i went overly subtle on the freckles for this last bunch of faceups because they are almost impossible to photograph. of course it is threatening to rain again today so i have time to decide if i want to enhance them. anyway meet skylar…

building a treehouse part 5

  • Posted on August 3, 2012 at 10:12 am

i finally got a few minutes to add the next step to my treehouse – the front railing. first i cut 2 square dowels to fit inside the front support beams. i measured and marked the center point, which in my case was 6 inches (i still alternate between inches and cm depending on which is easier or works better) then i drilled a hole for the spindle pinion (at least i think that’s what it’s called) the first hole was too small but worked great as a pilot hole for the bigger one. next i figured out the spacing for the other 6 spindles. that turned out to be a perfect 1-1/2″, easy! 🙂 i drilled those too and once i realized the holes had to go all the way through the dowel i placed the second under the first while drilling and got perfectly spaced pilot holes in my second dowel and none in my counter, bonus! 😉 for the second dowel i used scrap wood underneath to protect the counter. here is the result.

next i glued the bottom dowel to the base and weighed it down so that it dried flat. once the glue was dry i glued all the spindles in place, top and bottom and then glued the top of the railing at the ends. so it now looks like this.

i just have to sand the top of the railing since the pinions came through in a couple of places then add my balsa veneer.

painting painting and more painting…

i’ve been do, and redoing faceups all week. the weather, as it has been all summer, has not been the best for it, either raining or threatening to rain so that even when i think it is dry enough i’ve been struggling with bubbly msc. on the bright side i’m getting lots of practice doing faceups!

this was the week of the pukifee. skylar (pio) needed her first. here she is unpainted
pio unpainted 3
amberglas had a badly chipped chin and crystal somehow managed to chip off most of her upper lip paint when i wasn’t looking, so they decided to keep skylar company and make it a girls day out. except it turned into most of the week and crystal and noni aren’t quite done.

oh yeah, noni. noni has a great personality but the white skin really bothered me and never fit in with the other kids. i struggled with whether to adopt her out and get a normal skin ante to replace her, (but then she would be too close to crystal), reshell her as a bonnie or dye her. two weeks ago digory (my other ws) got a makeover and now sports a lovely tan, but it took 3 days, 2 dye baths, 3 cans of msc and a LOT of fiddling. so i decided not to try it with a pukifee. so that left adopting her out and trying a different doll.
then i had the idea of playing up the white skin and repainting her as a ghost or a dryad. so noni was wiped down and joined the others at the spa. her faceup is almost complete and i’m loving her new look so far. it’s going to require a different wig and eyes completely so she might not be done for a while yet but i think she will be a keeper. she’ll also get a new name and character. so noni as such will actually go on holidays and come back some time in the distant future as a bonnie i think.

to be continued…
