couch tutorial part 3 attaching the seat covers

  • Posted on December 5, 2014 at 9:04 am

the tufting is all done. this is really the only part that wouldn’t work to glue, but you could make your dots farther apart if you aren’t as obsessive as i am 😉 you could also add small buttons or beads on each tuft to mimic the buttons on a couch. personally i hate sitting on pillows with buttons so i refuse to inflict them on my dolls 😆

now tuck the ends in this hides all those ugly frayed ends and makes it look neat from the outside. make sure it is exactly as wide as your foam piece.

and pin in place, line up your batting even with the top of the foam and pin it in place so it doesn’t shift before you turn it over and stretch the back around.

whip stitched closed. this doesn’t have to be super neat as it won’t show. it’s more important that it be relatively flat, and that it hold the fabric tight. you could also glue this step if you’d rather and just leave the pins in to hold it tight till the glue dries, but i think stitching is more secure.

glue and weight …and wait 😉

the top layer added to each seat and weighted again so it will dry flat. once again there are TWO seats here, just stacked for space and so i can use the same weight for both. if you look at the end you will see i carefully covered the foam piece before i wrapped my tufted piece around it. i realized after i did, that the ends would be completely covered in the next step so it wasn’t necessary and i didn’t show that step.

next step coming after the glue dries….

couch tutorial part 2 making the seat covers

i cut (actually tore since it was easier to keep square) a piece of fabric big enough to just wrap around each of the third foam seat pieces, with an inch or so pressed under for a clean edgecut (or tear) a piece of fabric big enough to just wrap around the third foam seat, with an inch or so pressed under for a clean edge

also 3 pieces of warm and natural and 1 of the cover fabric each the same size as the foam

i glued them together with temporary spray adhesive (505 spray) and centered them on the cover fabric

sew and tie each dot!

there are 156 on my two seats so that will take me a while…..

dolly a day july 2-4

  • Posted on July 5, 2013 at 11:54 am

the second day and already i’m behind, but i had a specific image in my head for the word “blanket” and i just couldn’t let it go. it took this long to finish the pajamas i needed to make it work.
reflections
after i took the picture though, i saw the reflections in the floor and decided i would rather use this picture for that theme ( i do have three days to catch up after all ;))

so i used this one instead for “blanket”.

and of course how can you have a blanket without a “pillow”?

braving the cellar

crystalorn and amberglas are taking part in a swap on doa, with a couple of other tinies. crystal has already made a new bff, since her partner loves pink, flowers and lace as much as crystal! she is taking amber in hand since amber’s partner is also rather girly and she says amber is a great sister, but she just doesn’t understand pink! 😆

here the two of them are ready to go down into the basement to look for swap fabric. they put on their hiking boots, and crystal insisted on taking her flashlight, even though we have lots of light in the basement. they are ready for serious work!

lucy’s back

  • Posted on January 25, 2013 at 10:29 am

lucy is back with a new faceup. she was really rough on her old one, multiple scratches and lost lashes in just a week, but her new face captured pretty much what i loved about the old one so it is all good. i’m not sure what is getting into the littlefees lately though. they are all attitude when it comes to clothes and pictures. i’d expect that from the teenagers, but not the ‘fees!

lucy is also going through a phase of only wearing black, not a goth sort of black, she is into an urban chic sort of black. i have to admit it really suits her and looks great against that flaming red hair.

eilidh gets a new look

  • Posted on January 23, 2013 at 2:40 pm

eilidh got a new faceup recently – actually the same time kiri did- and we have been trying to figure out what to do about her hair since it just wasn’t right somehow. we tried a lot of different red wigs, but just couldn’t find “the one”. then one day we were playing in the wig box looking for a wig for lucy and eilidh discovered an old wig of ellyce’s. it was exactly the right color and length, it just needed some restyling….
eilidh's new look
personally i think it still could use some restyling, but eilidh seems to really like the wild mop head look!

with her makeup and hair sorted out she happily chose a new top to model.
this cherry red sparkly twist collared top is the first one in my new line of tops for littlefees in my etsy store – and it fits the honey delfs and bids too!

i made two of them, so eilidh gets to keep this one.

but there is one more available for sale

kiri’s new hoody

  • Posted on December 18, 2012 at 11:07 am

kiri liked the big girls hoodies so much that she begged me to make one for her too. i had to completely redraft the pattern. her proportions are sufficiently different from the older girls that it was easier to start from scratch, and then it took three tries to get the hood to work out in this size. but i think in the end it was worth it ’cause it came out really cute. here she is in the first one that worked. kiri's new hoody
now all the little girls want one! 😆 so i’m off to see what other fabrics i have that would work for my girls, these will be available on etsy soon 🙂

update. they are available now

i just posted my first listing on etsy :tapdances around the room.

introducing wisp

onebluestocking

i have a long way to go to finish stocking it, but the first item is up so at least i have finally made a start, after all the delays and procrastination. i have 21 dress, 28 nap blankets and a whole pile of hats ready to go so decided to just get there and start listing even of all the pictures haven’t been taken. the weather isn’t cooperating today anyway so i’ll try to finish up the pictures of what i’ve got done over the next week. then i’ll be able to start on some new stuff with a clear conscience.
