we saw a grizzly on the side of the highway quietly eating grass. i don’t think i’ve ever been that close to one before. i definitely would not want to get out of the car, but we got some cool shots
photo shoot at wedge pond
we got up really early this morning (5:30 am! i didn’t know the day could start that early!) to go on a field trip for my macro photography course. amber and crystal agreed to come along as models – though they slept in the car the whole way there. as a consequence they were much more awake than i was.
the lake was mirror smooth and formed an almost perfect double image.
the girls posed on a rock in front of the lake. i think amber might have still been a bit sleepy.
next time they want jackets, hats and mitts though, as it was COLD at that time of the morning.
what is in a name?
this beauty is prosaically entitled “cow parsnip”, a name that doesn’t really suit it’s intriguing look. now i have nothing at all against cows, (though i must admit to intensely disliking parsnips), but to me this looks more like a fireworks explosion captured in time, than either a cow or parsnip.

They heard his cries in the night from across the lawn
They found him dead at the bottom of the lake at dawn
Nobody’d come running to the rescue and when they were asked
The passersby said that the signs that they read said “Keep Off the Grass”
‘Cause you can’t go near
Anybody else’s private ground
See folks ‘round here
Have got a democratic right to drown
And you’re just a fool
If you care about the faces in the crowd
We’ve got a new edition of the Golden Rule:
No trespassing allowed
Nobody asked her ‘bout the bruises on her face
I guess she was glad that they gave her her personal space
When the bones wouldn’t mend and it came to an end in the dead of the night
They neighbours were sad but at least they had respected her rights
‘Cause you can’t go near
Anybody else’s private ground
See folks ‘round here
Have got a democratic right to drown
And you’re just a fool
If you care about the faces in the crowd
We’ve got a new edition of the Golden Rule:
No trespassing allowed
Can’t you read the signs?
These are enlightened times
Got to be careful not to think too much
You can watch ‘em going under but you just can’t touch
‘Cause you can’t go near
Anybody else’s private ground
See folks ‘round here
Have got a democratic right to drown
And you’re just a fool
If you care about the faces in the crowd

new flowers in my garden
passing my garden and casually making note of the weeds to pull, i was astonished to see something strange poking out of my flower bed
up popped two little girls
surprise! they cried. we’re back to stay
what we found in the woods today
beezie and i went exploring in the woods. she climbed up this bush to get at the ripe buffalo berries.
peeking over every log and under every bush, but she wouldn’t tell me what she was looking for…
spying a glimpse of blue beezie pulled back a leaf to find an unusual seedpod
beezie snuck in for a closer look. “you’re exactly what i was looking for!”
smiling, the stranger climbed out of her pod
hi, i’m smidge. can we be friends?
of course beezie said “yes!” so off the new friends went exploring together..
they found many wonderful things
then rested together on a giant toadstool
it is just the start of many wonderful adventures together….

there’s just something cool about looking off a bridge, i was really happy with the varied textures in this shot.
(digory just wanted to jump in and was quite upset that i wouldn’t let him.)
i love the way the sunlight sparkles on the water in this shot.
sunset to the east
driving home from the mountains on a rainy day the clouds to the east looked like they were on fire as the sun set. oddly enough it was almost boring to the west. this picture was taken as we were driving at highway speeds. i was very pleased with the results as it captured the look of the sky on fire.
