photo challenge
i was challenged to do a collage to illustrate a yarn color, so i chose the one with my favorite name “lost and wandering” and picked photos from our travels of dolls wandering that picked out the colors in the yarn
end of march
the last day of march was actually the end of the row. the weather is still all over the place, but starting to get more spring like. i can hear the birds chirping when i sit in my living room, even with the windows closed. (hope that means they are just on the roof, not in the roof, but that is another concern altogether!)
anyway, here is my blanket till the end of march
dyeing or dying
i’ve been taking a break from dolly stuff to whip up some crocheted cotton coasters and flowers for a class on dyeing that we will be teaching to our esl knitting/crocheting group. you should have seen the look on some of their faces when we announced the class. i quickly had to explain what a homonym was and that we were going to be coloring stuff, not killing them!
dreaming of summer
while looking for crochet hooks at michaels’ today i spied these cute metal chairs in the spring decor section. since they were buy one get one free i figured we should snag a couple. with the sale they were only $9 each, quite a bargain, since they are pretty much a perfect size for my minifees and i think, my littlefees, though i haven’t shown the chairs to the ltf’s yet.
there is still snow on the ground, but they have meg dreaming of summer!
crocheted amigurumi bear
once again this year i decided to try crocheting a teddy bear for my girls using lace weight thread. i started with a bunch of patterns, used bits and pieces from each and did a lot of improvising
For a yarn that normally felts if you look at it wrong, this was surprisingly hard to felt. I tried several sessions of wetting then tumbling inn hottest dryer with lots of balls/towels to agitate, then spent 1/2hour+ wetting and rubbing till my thumbs were raw just to achieve a slightly fuzzy look. Moral of the story to keep mal lace from felting badly, crochet with a small hook!
he also came out a lot bigger than i had planned. i was hoping for a 3 inch bear when i started, but quickly realized he was going to be at least twice that size. i like him anyway, but he’s def too big for my girls to play with
