journalling

  • Posted on January 18, 2012 at 8:04 am

i don’t normally keep a design journal per se, a binder full of ideas/patterns in clear protective sleeves works better for me. i like to be able to move stuff around and order by priority, so having something that is stationary doesn’t really work that well for me. but these journals were so pretty, i just couldn’t resist
new journals
it’s funny, i love lace frills and shabby chic stuff, but i look horrible in it and wear mostly bright t-shirts and jeans instead. it doesn’t work well with “my” kids either. only noni and tiera are the frilly type. but i finally got a room all to myself and i did it up in lime green, fuchsia, and winter white. i think i love lace, but i’m more inspired by color.

kids are still sick, so i have to resort to an older picture instead of taking new ones.

i love the effect of light coming in a window.

bow glacier falls with digory

  • Posted on October 26, 2011 at 9:34 am

lunch break

today we decided to hike to bow glacier falls, an amazing hike. it was a cool drizzly day, the kind i like best for hiking in. just cool enough to not overheat, enough rain to be refreshing, and enough sun to not get more than damp. digory wore his new red sweater to keep warm. i need to make him a raincoat if we are going to go hiking often. but in typical boy fashion a little mud and water with no soap in sight just made it all the more fun!

the rocks were amazingly diverse, scattered across the valley where the glacier had advanced and receded long ago. the rocks mixed with iron oxide had rusty orange patterns, i nice change from the usual gray rocks found around here.

the water tumbled over the cliffs in large and small streams so we ended up hiking through the low creek beds which covered the whole valley.  i’m sure later in the season it is drier but fording the water on larger rocks was actually kind of fun.  it was challenging to find larger rocks on which to rest and look around.  we took advantage of the ones we found.

touching my toes

If God wanted me to be able to touch my toes he would have made it possible for me to knit with my feet.

knit dress and shoes

beezie is showing off the lovely clothes she got from aunty gill. it is unusual to find her in a dress. she graciously informed me that smidge could have it when she gets home, but i think she looks sweet in it. (she read that last over my shoulder and stated emphatically that she is NOT sweet, she is an explorer!

the second outfit from aunty gill was a lovely pair of knit pants and shirt. this one beezie claimed as her own but stated that smidge would have to get her own shoes as she is not giving these ones up.

i found an unusual seed under a cabbage leaf in my garden. i thought it was just a myth that babies are found under cabbage leaves, but you never know….

digory in tree

digory is a very active boy. and has no fear of heights!

digory goes travelling.

so having a boy in the house is really shaking things up.  boys are loud and have so much energy.  the girls were being driven to distraction, so i decided to take him on a road trip to explore the mountains, welcome him here, and give the girls a little respite.

first we drove off to kananskis to try to get to elbow lake.  the first road we tried was closed so we headed off on backroads tying to go the long way round to see if we could get there another way.  after a couple of hours in the car digory was getting really wiggly, so we stopped at the start of a small trail and went exploring.

digory insisted on dragging along his new skateboard.  (it was supposed to be for his brother who is still away at school but i’m not sure digory will give it up 🙂 )

digory skateboard

he is quite the little ham, and loves to climb on everything

funky boy

we found a whole field of dandelions and digory was quite fascinated with these strange yellow things. i don’t think he’ll like them quite as much after he has to weed the garden a few times 🙂

banff/lake louise trip day 7 afternoon

  • Posted on June 20, 2011 at 10:44 am

after lunch we headed back home.  reluctant to get right back into our normal routine we made one last stop at big hill springs provincial park

over the river and through the woods…

there were some lovely rock cliffs to climb

and i even found a cave.

i wanted to go in and do some exploring, but was afraid i might wake a hibernating bear,  so instead i just peeked in the entrance.  not having a flashlight with me i couldn’t see very far.

i ended by sitting on the bridge and dreaming of spring, when we can come out and swim in the creek
